The Student Village Network uses TCP/IP protocol (IPv4) for communication. A computer connected to Student Village Network will receive its network settings automatically as long as the computer is set to use automatic settings. Student Village Network’s IP addresses are dynamically assigned via DHCP server. This means that the subscription does not have a fixed address, but the IP addresses circulate from one machine on the network to another. Do not set a static IP address, it won’t work.
On Windows machines, network settings can be accessed in different ways, depending on the version of Windows. Note that all changes to the network settings must be made with Administrator privileges.
Shortcut to the settings: Press the Windows key and the R key at the same time to open the Run box. Type ncpa.cpl and hit Enter and you can access Network Connections immediately.
In the resulting window, select Internet Protocol TCP/IP IPv4, and click Properties. Correct settings are Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically.
