The TCP/IP protocol (IPv4) is used in the Student Village Network. A computer connected to the student village network receives its network settings automatically from University’s DHCP server, as long as the computer is set to use automatic settings. Student Village Network’s IP-addresses are dynamic, so manual IP-address settings are forbidden. Setting a static IP address manually will get your connection temporarily closed.

Network settings

In Windows network configuration location depends on the used version of Windows. You can try to submit the following shortcut command through start menu's search/run command field: "ncpa.cpl". If it doesn't work, follow the intructions below.

Windows 2000: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network and Dial-Up Connections, select the Local Area Network Connection and click on Properties.

Windows XP: Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Internet Connections -> Network Connections. Double-click on Local Area Connection and select Properties.

Windows Vista or 7: Start -> Control Panel -> from Network and Internet select View network status and tasks -> Local Area Connection: View status -> Properties.

Note that changes to the network settings must be made with administrator privileges.

In the properties window, select Internet Protocol TCP/IP (in Vista & Windows 7: TCP/IP IPv4), and click Properties. The correct settings are "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". After making changes you may be required to restart your computer. NOTICE! Student Village Network does not support TCP/IPv6 protocol yet. We recommend that users disable TCP/IPv6 option by unchecking the selection box from the settings.
